6 Scriptures to Help You Focus on Who God Is

In the rush of daily life, it’s easy to get caught up in our worries, to-do lists, and distractions. But when we pause to focus on who God truly is, our perspective shifts, and our hearts find peace. As I explore these truths in my Rooted in Who God Is podcast season, I’m reminded that knowing God’s character deeply transforms how we live. Here are five Scriptures to help you focus on God’s nature and draw closer to Him.

1. God is Holy

“Exalt the Lord our God; worship at his footstool! Holy is he!” – Psalm 99:5 (ESV)
God’s holiness reminds us that He is completely pure, righteous, and set apart from sin. Focusing on His holiness calls us to awe, reverence, and a life aligned with His truth.

2. God is Loving

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:22–23 (ESV)
God’s love is unwavering and faithful. When we meditate on His love, we are reminded that we are deeply cherished, and His promises are always true, even when our circumstances feel uncertain.

3. God is the Good Shepherd

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” – John 10:11 (ESV)
God’s care is personal and tender. Like a shepherd who knows each sheep by name, He guides, protects, and provides for us daily. Trusting Him allows us to follow without fear.

4. God is Truth

“Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.” – John 17:17 (ESV)
God is the standard of all truth. In a world of confusion and shifting opinions, His Word and character are unchanging. Meditating on this truth strengthens our faith and anchors our hearts.

5. God is Protector

“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge.” – Psalm 18:2 (ESV)
God shields us from danger and provides safety in life’s storms. Focusing on Him as our protector reminds us that no circumstance can overpower His power or care.

6. God is the Prince of Peace

“He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.” – Psalm 23:2–3 (ESV)
God brings calm to our hearts and restores our souls. Meditating on Him as our Prince of Peace helps us experience His quieting presence in the chaos of life.

Take a moment this week to meditate on one of these truths. Let your heart dwell on God’s holiness, love, care, faithfulness, and peace.
