How Living Out the Knowledge of God Transforms Your MindWhy Knowledge Alone Isn’t Enough

It’s possible to spend years in Scripture and still face an uncomfortable truth — living out the knowledge of God is more than knowing facts. I can recognize who He is, affirm His Word, and understand His character. Yet in daily life, my thoughts often drift toward worry, fear, or self-reliance.

Complacency can look harmless. It’s quiet familiarity with Scripture without active obedience. I might attend church, read devotionals, or even memorize verses. But if my mind doesn’t align with His truth, transformation stalls.

Knowledge alone doesn’t change habits, priorities, or responses. Transformation begins when God’s truth takes root in the heart and mind. It requires intentional engagement, not passive agreement.

Anchoring Your Life in God’s Character

God’s character offers both challenge and rest. He is holy, set apart, calling us to reverence and obedience. God is love, faithful and unchanging, reminding us that worth is found in Him, not performance.

He is our Good Shepherd, guiding each step. When we resist His voice, we miss His wisdom and provision. He is truth, cutting through cultural lies and distorted thinking. He is strength, sustaining us when we are weary or tempted to rely on ourselves. And He is the Prince of Peace, offering calm and assurance in a chaotic world.

Knowing these attributes is not enough. They must reshape our thoughts and decisions. When I meditate on His holiness, I examine my priorities. When I embrace His peace, I interrupt fear with Scripture. When I lean on His strength, I no longer carry burdens alone.

Each attribute is an anchor for daily living. Reflection, prayer, and intentional focus on God’s character align our minds with His reality.

Moving from Familiarity to Transformation

Transformation is a journey. It doesn’t happen by accident or mere exposure to Scripture. It grows through deliberate practice: reading, memorizing, meditating, and applying truth to thought patterns and daily actions.

The podcast series Rooted in Who God Is and the Renewing Our Minds study provide tools for this journey. Each episode and study module explores one of God’s key attributes — holy, love, Good Shepherd, truth, strength, and Prince of Peace — helping us move beyond information toward lived experience.

When we engage intentionally, truth moves from the page to our minds, hearts, and lives. We start thinking differently, responding differently, and making choices that reflect who God is.

If you’re ready to stop drifting and allow knowledge to transform your life, I invite you to join us inside Watered By the Word. Together, we will root our minds in Scripture, anchor our hearts in God’s character, and live out the truth we already know.

Reflection Questions

  • Where have I allowed familiarity with truth to replace active transformation?

  • Which aspect of God’s character do I most struggle to live from right now?

  • What thought patterns need realignment with His Word this week?

  • What intentional step can I take today to renew my mind?

In the rush of daily life, it’s easy to get caught up in our worries, to-do lists, and distractions. But when we pause to focus on who God truly is, our perspective shifts, and our hearts find peace. As I explore these truths in my Rooted in Who God Is podcast season, I’m reminded that knowing God’s character deeply transforms how we live. Here are five Scriptures to help you focus on God’s nature and draw closer to Him.

1. God is Holy

“Exalt the Lord our God; worship at his footstool! Holy is he!” – Psalm 99:5 (ESV)
God’s holiness reminds us that He is completely pure, righteous, and set apart from sin. Focusing on His holiness calls us to awe, reverence, and a life aligned with His truth.

2. God is Loving

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:22–23 (ESV)
God’s love is unwavering and faithful. When we meditate on His love, we are reminded that we are deeply cherished, and His promises are always true, even when our circumstances feel uncertain.

3. God is the Good Shepherd

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” – John 10:11 (ESV)
God’s care is personal and tender. Like a shepherd who knows each sheep by name, He guides, protects, and provides for us daily. Trusting Him allows us to follow without fear.

4. God is Truth

“Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.” – John 17:17 (ESV)
God is the standard of all truth. In a world of confusion and shifting opinions, His Word and character are unchanging. Meditating on this truth strengthens our faith and anchors our hearts.

5. God is Protector

“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge.” – Psalm 18:2 (ESV)
God shields us from danger and provides safety in life’s storms. Focusing on Him as our protector reminds us that no circumstance can overpower His power or care.

6. God is the Prince of Peace

“He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.” – Psalm 23:2–3 (ESV)
God brings calm to our hearts and restores our souls. Meditating on Him as our Prince of Peace helps us experience His quieting presence in the chaos of life.

Take a moment this week to meditate on one of these truths. Let your heart dwell on God’s holiness, love, care, faithfulness, and peace.

How Living Out the Knowledge of God Transforms Your Mind

Renewing my mind sounds simple. In reality, it often feels like a challenge.
Especially on days when mental fatigue sets in early.

As women, we process countless thoughts each day. Decisions. Responsibilities. Information coming at us nonstop. By the time I pause to think about renewing my mind, I already feel tired. The idea can feel like one more spiritual task I don’t have the energy to do well.

Yet Scripture is clear. If I want to grow, I must renew my mind by knowing who God is. Not occasionally. Not theoretically. Daily.

When God Slips to the Background

Most days, the problem isn’t intentional neglect. It’s distraction.

I can move through an entire day without really thinking about God at all. Life demands my attention, and I rely on myself to get things done. I plan. I’m pushing. I manage. What I forget is that I was never meant to live this way.

God has given me His Holy Spirit. Not to add pressure, but to provide power.
Jesus promised that the Spirit would help, remind, and strengthen us (John 14:26). When I depend on myself, the burden grows heavier. When I depend on Him, the weight begins to lift.

Renewing the mind isn’t about effort. It’s about alignment.

God Showed Me What I Wasn’t Paying Attention To

I didn’t set out to examine my thoughts about God. Honestly, I wasn’t capturing them at all.

But the Lord began drawing my attention to what I believed about Him in everyday moments. Not in church. Not during study time. But in stress. In waiting. In weariness.

That’s when I realized how much my thinking needed renewal.

What I believe about God shapes how I live. If my thoughts drift unchecked, spiritual drift follows. Renewing my mind means intentionally returning to truth. Again and again.

Six Truths That Re-Anchor My Mind

God keeps bringing me back to who He is. These truths realign my thinking and steady my heart.

He is Holy.
God is set apart and unchanging. His holiness lifts my eyes beyond my circumstances.

He is Loving.
His love is personal and steadfast. It does not waver with my performance.

He is My Good Shepherd.
He leads, provides, and stays near. I am not navigating life alone.

He is Truth.
In a noisy world, God’s Word anchors my mind and exposes lies.

He is My Protector.
God sees the battle. He guards and covers His people.

He is My Prince of Peace.
Peace is not something I create. It flows from trusting Him.

As I renew my mind by knowing who God is, my reactions change. My endurance grows. My faith deepens.

Why This Changes Everything

Renewing the mind is essential for spiritual maturity. Without it, growth stalls. Faith weakens. Witness loses clarity.

When my mind is rooted in truth, hope rises. Hardship becomes easier to endure. My responses shift—I respond instead of react. Slowly, I become more like Christ.

This matters because the world is watching. A grounded faith speaks loudly. A distracted one does not.

The Urgency of Now

All we truly have is now.

We are not promised tomorrow. The people in our lives may not have unlimited time to hear the truth of the Gospel. That reality matters.

Who needs to hear about Jesus before it is too late?
What kind of legacy do I want to leave?

This is why I choose to renew my mind by knowing who God is. Not later. Not when life slows down. Now.

You Don’t Have to Walk Alone

We were never meant to do this alone.

There are sisters in Christ who want to walk this journey together. Women who desire truth, maturity, and faithfulness. That’s why Watered By the Word exists.

It’s free. It offers support, Scripture-based tools, and encouragement to help you stay rooted in truth.

The time is now.
Let’s walk this road together.

Staying consistent in Bible study can feel impossible when life is busy, and your to-do list never seems to end. But building a daily habit is doable with small, intentional steps. Here are three ways to stay on track:

1. Make a Commitment and Calendar It
Consistency starts with a decision. Choose a time each day—even if it’s just 10–15 minutes—and put it on your calendar like any other appointment. Treat it as non-negotiable. Even small, regular time in God’s Word compounds into deep spiritual growth.

2. Follow a Reading Plan
A reading plan gives structure and direction. Instead of staring at your Bible wondering where to start, a plan guides you step by step. Whether it’s a topical plan, a book of the Bible, or a devotional, having a plan makes daily study feel manageable and purposeful.

3. Use Music to Hide Scripture in Your Heart
Memorizing scripture doesn’t have to feel like a chore. Singing God’s Word can make it stick in your heart and mind. Turn verses into songs or listen to scripture set to music. This not only helps you remember God’s truth but makes your daily study enjoyable.

Consistency in Bible study is about small, intentional steps that fit into your life. If you want a practical way to start memorizing scripture using music, check out my 5-Day “Verse by Verse”: A Simple 5-day plan to memorize scripture with music. It’s designed to help you hide God’s Word in your heart quickly and joyfully.

Grab your plan HERE

Reflection Questions:

  1. What is one small step you can take this week to make Bible study a consistent part of your day?

  2. Which reading plan or approach would help you stay on track without feeling overwhelmed?

  3. How could incorporating music into your study help you memorize and meditate on scripture more effectively?

Building a Daily Habit That Draws You Closer to Him

Open Bible in soft morning light representing building a daily Bible reading habit and consistent time in God’s Word. The start of a new year feels like a gift to me.

Not a demand to fix myself.
Not pressure to perform better spiritually.
But an invitation to begin again.

A deep longing stirs in my spirit.
This year, I want to be watered by the Word.
Letting Scripture shape my heart is my desire.
To steady me.
To transform me.

What I want most is not intensity.
I want consistency.
I want a daily Bible reading habit that draws me closer to God.

Yet I know what has stopped me before.

When Feelings Decide for Us

Most days, the battle isn’t belief.
It’s emotion.

“I don’t feel like it today.”
“I’ll do it later.”
“I’m too tired to focus.”

And slowly, drifting begins.

Then the inner voice shows up.

“I should be further along.”
“I need to do better.”
“Why can’t I stay consistent?”
“Maybe I’m just lazy.”

That lie is heavy.
But it is still a lie.

God is not asking for perfection.
He is inviting us into faithfulness.

Consistency Over Perfection

Here is the loving wake-up call I need every year.

Consistency matters more than length.
Faithfulness matters more than feelings.
Relationship matters more than discipline.

Time in Scripture was never meant to be punishment.
It is an invitation to abide.

Scripture says,

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.”
Colossians 3:16

Not skim.
Not rush.
Dwell.

A daily Bible reading habit allows God’s Word to live with us.
To settle into our thinking.
To shape our responses.

And God’s Word is not passive.

“For the word of God is living and active.”
— Hebrews 4:12

Living things grow when they are watered regularly.

Why Drifting Happens So Easily

Drifting rarely starts with rebellion.
It starts with neglect.

Busy schedules.
Mental fatigue.
Too many voices competing for attention.

Before we realize it, our daily time in God’s Word becomes optional.

But abiding requires intention.

Jesus never asked us to visit Him occasionally.
He asked us to remain.

That is why building a rhythm matters.

Not someday.
Now.

A Simple Way to Begin Again

This year does not need a complicated plan.

It needs a faithful beginning.

That is why I created the Let Scripture Come Alive 21-Day Challenge.  This challenge is Simple. Gentle. Doable.

The goal is not mastery.
The goal is presence.

This challenge helps you build a daily Bible habit without overwhelm.
It brings Scripture back into daily life.
Not as pressure.
But as nourishment.

A daily Bible reading habit changes us quietly.
But deeply.

You Were Never Meant to Do This Alone

One truth I am holding tightly this year is this:

We were not created to grow alone.

Community is not extra.
It is essential.

Sometimes the missing piece is not effort.
It is connection.

There is a community ready to walk with you.
To encourage you.
To remind you when motivation fades.

Taking the Shepherd’s hand requires humility.
But it leads to growth.

A Clear Invitation

This is your year to stop drifting.
And start abiding in Christ daily.

You can keep waiting for motivation.
Or you can choose faithfulness today.

Here is your invitation:

You do not have to figure out how to read the Bible consistently on your own.

The Word is living.
The invitation is open.
And the Shepherd is calling.

This Christmas, it’s easy to get caught up in the busyness and miss the heart of the season. If you want to savor Christmas fully—finding joy, peace, and meaning amidst the celebrations—these four simple steps will help you focus on what truly matters.

1. Pause and Reflect on Christ’s Gift

Before the wrapping paper and feasts take over, take a quiet moment to remember why we celebrate. Reflect on Luke 2:10–11: “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” Let His presence fill your heart before the day begins.

2. Make Space for Meaningful Moments

Turn off the noise—social media, endless errands, and screens—and create intentional moments with family or friends. Whether it’s reading a Christmas story together, singing carols, or sharing what God has done this year, these small acts become treasured memories.

3. Give the Gift of Presence

Sometimes the best gift isn’t something wrapped—it’s giving your full attention to those around you. Be fully present in conversations, meals, and gatherings. Romans 12:10 reminds us to “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” Let love and presence shape your holiday interactions.

4. Start the Year Rooted in God’s Word

As the season winds down, consider carrying the focus of Christ into the new year. I’m inviting you to join a simple Bible reading challenge on the Wake Up My Daughters podcast from December 29 through January 13. It’s a gentle way to keep Christ at the center and start 2026 with His Word in your heart.

Click HERE to download your guide for the Bible reading challenge, and be sure to listen to The Wake Up My Daughters Podcast each week during the challenge to fully engage and receive encouragement. Let’s savor Christmas together and start the new year rooted in Christ!

When the Season Feels Heavy Before It Begins

I can feel the weight of the season before it even arrives. The holidays bring so much joy, yet they also bring a quiet sense of dread. My list grows longer each day. My energy fades. My heart feels stretched thin. I whisper to myself that Advent should feel different, but most years it slips past me in a blur of responsibility.

I long for more than that this time. I long for the wonder the season is meant to hold. I want to enter Advent with expectancy, not exhaustion. I want to savor the story instead of racing through it. I want to remember what it felt like before the world crowded it with noise and pressure. Deep down, I want a slower, more sacred journey with Jesus.

Why Advent Often Feels Routine Instead of Transforming

But so often, Advent feels routine. Four candles. Four Sundays. A few readings at church. And then I return home unchanged. The meaning stays inside the sanctuary, while the whirlwind waits at my front door. I never intend for it to be shallow, but without intentional thought, it becomes another tradition instead of a transformative season.

This year, I feel a deeper longing. I want to connect with God in a real way, not a rushed one. I want His presence to settle my spirit. I want my heart to soften again. Yet the demands of life pull me away. The shopping. The planning. The meals. The decorating. The unspoken expectation that I must make everything magical for everyone else.

The Quiet Struggle Beneath the Holiday Noise

And beneath all of that sits grief, fatigue, and the quiet ache of unmet hopes. I feel it in the moments when I try to pray but cannot focus. I feel it when I want to open my Bible but reach for my to-do list instead. I feel it in the loneliness that hides even inside crowded rooms. Advent should draw me closer to Jesus, but sometimes I struggle to find Him at all.

Somewhere in this tension, a turning point begins to form. It doesn’t always arrive in a dramatic way. Sometimes it’s a whispered prayer in the kitchen. Sometimes it’s the moment I break down because I can’t carry everything alone. Sometimes it’s a familiar carol that suddenly feels alive with truth. Sometimes it’s the gentle nudge of the Holy Spirit reminding me that Jesus came for hearts like mine.

Saying “Yes” to Jesus in Simple, Quiet Ways

Whatever the moment looks like, it becomes the place where I decide I don’t want another rushed December. I don’t want to say “yes” to everything except Him. I want to create space for Jesus again, even if that space is small. Five minutes in God’s Word once or twice a day feels like a simple way to begin. A quiet return. A steady breath. A way to let Him meet me where I am.

When I picture reaching Christmas morning after walking closely with Him, I imagine a different kind of heart. A heart filled with awe instead of anxiety. Peace instead of pressure. Wonder instead of weariness. I imagine feeling rooted in His love instead of drowning in expectations. That hope pulls me forward.

Walking a Simpler, Richer Path Through Advent

This is why I’m choosing a simple path through this season. I don’t need a heavy study. I need a gentle, steady guide that carries me deeper into the true story of Christ’s coming. I want to see beyond the familiar carols and discover the richness they hold. I want “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus” to speak to my soul in a fresh way. I want to walk through a study that lifts burdens instead of adding them.

That’s what this Advent journey offers. A safe place to grow. A way to breathe again. A chance to experience the Gospel with new eyes. A way to step out of the noise and into the presence of the One who came for me.

This is the path I am choosing—The Advent Journey.

A journey of rest.
A journey of renewal.
A journey that leads me back to Jesus.

And my heart is ready to begin The Advent Journey now.

If your heart is craving a slower, more meaningful December, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

I’m using a simple Advent study that helps me pause, reflect, and let His peace settle my soul.
One small step each day.
One moment with Jesus at a time.

Life after 50 isn’t always slower—it’s just different. Many of us find ourselves in the “sandwich years,” caring for aging parents while still guiding young adult children, managing a household, investing in marriage, and often still working. And while the pace of life hasn’t necessarily eased, our perspective has shifted.

For me, turning 50 stirred a longing to make the most of the time I have left—to live purposefully for the Kingdom and to leave a legacy of faith for my family. As the only believer in my family, that calling feels both weighty and beautiful.

In a world that constantly pulls us in every direction—where stress, anxiety, and overwhelm threaten to consume us—staying spiritually grounded isn’t optional. It’s essential. Jesus said in John 15:5, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit…” That “remaining” is what keeps me anchored in peace and focused on what truly matters.

Here are 5 simple devotional moments that help me stay rooted—even on the busiest days:

1. Morning Coffee with the Word

There’s something sacred about those quiet early moments—just you, your Bible, and a warm cup of coffee. Even 10-15 minutes in a psalm or the gospels can center your heart and set the tone for the day.

2. Breath Prayer in the Chaos

In the middle of errands, caregiving, or a stressful phone call, whisper a breath prayer. Something as simple as “Lord, You are my peace” can shift your focus and invite His presence into the moment.

3. Stillness and Surrender

Take a few minutes in the afternoon or evening to sit quietly before the Lord. No phone, no to-do list—just being with Jesus. Let Him speak peace over your soul.

4. Scripture on the Go

Keep a verse card in your purse or on your dashboard. Meditate on it while waiting in line, driving, or taking a walk. Let God’s Word meet you in the margins.

5. Prayer as You Tidy

While folding laundry, doing dishes, or straightening up the house, pray over your family, your home, your worries. Invite God into the everyday moments.

A Final Word of Encouragement

Dear sister, it is never too late to grow closer to Jesus. God’s Word reminds us in Isaiah 46:4, “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you.”

Start small. You don’t need perfection—just a willing heart and a few surrendered moments each day. Spiritual maturity is about progress, not performance.

And what comes from that place of connection? For me, it’s peace. It’s contentment. And it’s a faith that keeps growing stronger with each passing year.

You’re not behind. You’re right where God can meet you. And He delights in drawing near.

Rediscovering What Matters Most

As Christian women over 50, many of us have walked with Jesus for years. We\’ve seen His faithfulness. We know the power of prayer. And yet—life still pulls us in a thousand directions.

The truth? We often say, “I don’t have time.” But what we really mean is, “I haven’t made time.”

The demands of life don’t stop. But neither does God\’s invitation to draw near. He doesn\’t demand perfection—only our presence.

We long for peace. For rest. For a deeper connection with the Lord. And that comes not from striving harder, but from building lasting spiritual habits for busy women who are ready to re-center their lives on Christ.

Start Small, But Start

One of the most powerful shifts in my spiritual life happened when I committed to meeting with Jesus early each morning. Some days, it’s five minutes. Other days, it’s a full hour. But the habit—not the length—is what transformed my heart.

Here are three simple ways to begin:

  1. Read just one chapter of Scripture a day. Start in the Gospels or Psalms.
  2. Set a daily reminder to pause and pray—even for one minute.
  3. Schedule time with God like you would a doctor’s appointment. Make it non-negotiable.

When life interrupts your quiet time, grace is your friend. Try again tomorrow—or later today. Spiritual habits grow in grace, not guilt. And remember, lasting spiritual habits for busy women are less about doing and more about becoming.

Rest Over Routine

If you view time with Jesus as another task, you’ll avoid it. But when you see it as rest for your soul, everything changes.

Think of your quiet time as a sacred invitation:

  • An invitation to breathe deep.
  • To lay down your burdens.
  • To hear God\’s voice above the noise of the world.

You don’t have to be perfect to be present. Even when your thoughts wander or your day feels chaotic, God meets you there.

And don’t underestimate the power of worship. Music can soften your heart and turn your focus back to the Lord. Let it be your reminder that you are loved, seen, and secure.

Community also matters. Accountability and encouragement from other women of faith can help you stay on course. You don’t have to do this alone.

When we build lasting spiritual habits for busy women, we’re not just improving our days—we\’re investing in eternity.

Scriptures to Guide You

Let the Word be your foundation. Here are a few verses to keep close:

  • Psalm 46:10 – “Be still, and know that I am God.”
  • John 15:5 – “Apart from me you can do nothing.”
  • Isaiah 40:31 – “Those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength.”
  • Matthew 6:33 – “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness…”
  • Romans 12:2 – “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

A Legacy of Faith

As you begin to prioritize your time with God, something beautiful happens. Peace replaces pressure. Clarity quiets the chaos. Confidence rises as you live rooted in Christ.

You will leave behind more than a to-do list or accomplishments. You’ll leave a legacy of faith—one your family will remember.

And the beauty is, it’s never too late to begin again.

Let this be the year you build lasting spiritual habits for busy women who are done with distraction and ready to live on purpose—for the glory of God.
